Vice President – CVA
As a Vice President at Vantage Point Advisors, Inc., Spencer Hatfield advises clients on valuation-related matters including intangible assets, financial instruments (e.g. equity and debt) for the purposes of financial and tax reporting, merger and acquisition planning, reorganizations, restructurings, gift and estate, financing and litigation. His industry experience includes technology, financials, pharma/life sciences, and real estate, among others. During his tenure in the valuation profession, Spencer has performed valuations of business entities for share-based compensation (IRC 409A and ASC 718), board advisory, tax reporting, buy-side M&A due diligence, goodwill impairment testing (ASC 350), and purchase price allocations (ASC 805).
Prior to joining Vantage Point Advisors, Spencer was a Senior Associate at Scalar and was responsible for valuation and transaction advisory engagements. At Scalar, Spencer fulfilled on more than 500 engagements that included venture capital and private equity portfolios, mergers and acquisitions, raising capital, deferred compensation, financial reporting, estate and tax planning, shareholder disputes, and goodwill impairment testing. Before coming to Scalar, Spencer was a Senior Associate at Duff & Phelps where he was essential in the valuation analysis of several large financial company acquisitions in excess of $1 billion. Before Spencer worked at Duff & Phelps, he worked at BYU Global Financial Advisors, Goldman Sachs, and Wells Fargo.
Spencer attended Brigham Young University where he was Vice President of the BYU Market Club and where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance. He is also a Certified Valuation Analyst (CVA) and a member of the National Association of Certified Valuators and Analysts.
